The current Deal pier was built in 1954, it is one of three piers that have been built on this site. Opened in November 1957 by the Duke of Edinburgh, the pier is built from reinforced concrete and the 1026ft structure has international recognition as an angling venue.
Deal Pier Kitchen situated at the end of the Pier provides fantastic views over the Kent coastline and out to sea and serves brunch and lunch daily, featuring in The Times top 30 best beach cafés and restaurants in July 2020.
Owned by Dover District Council it was named Pier of the Year 2008 by the National Piers Society. Visiting the town of Deal make time to take a stroll along the pier and stop for a drink or lunch and enjoy the view.
What happened to the other piers?
The first one built on the site was just 250 feet long and was built in 1838, the pier decayed and was damaged in storms, being washed away in 1857.
The second pier was 1100 feet long and began being built in 1863, in 1940, a Dutch vessel, the Nora, drifted against the pier, destroying 200 feet of ironwork. It was demolished shortly after.
