Charming, stylish and full of history, the picturesque market town of Arundel in West Sussex is probably most famous for two stunning landmarks - Arundel Castle and Arundel Cathedral.

The market town of Arundel is located just 90 minutes by train from London, and is ideal for a short weekend break or day out.  The town spans the banks of the beautiful River Arun with the town lying between the magnificent South Downs and the Sussex coastline.

Things to do in Arundel

  • At Arundel Wetland Centre you can spot water voles from the boat safari, hand feed rare geese and stroll quiet pathways to observe Sussex wildlife.
  • Arundel Castle is a stately home and fortified castle that towers over the town offering grat views of the Sussex countryside. There's also a calendar of events throughout the year offering something different for every visit.
  • Pay a visit to the Arundel Farmers Market - held every third Saturday of the month in the town centre.
  • The town is home to a rich variety of independent retailers, antique markets and art galleries, offering a unique shopping experience.
  • Learn about Arundel's fascinating history at the town's museum.
  • Arundel Cathedral was originally the Church of St. Philip Neri and only renamed in 1965 leaving Arundel as one of the only cathedral destinations not classified as a city.
  • Eat out overlooking the River Arun in one of Arundel’s pretty waterside pubs, cafés and restaurants - look out for the locally sourced produce including Selsey lobsters.
  • Just 10 minutes from the centre of town is Amberley Museum, with 36 acres to explore and over 40 exhibits to visit, you can discover the South’s working past.

Each year Arundel plays host to some of Sussex’s most popular events, including Arundel Arts Festival, a ten day celebration of creative arts (August), Arundel Festival of History (August), and Arundel Cathedral’s Feast of Corpus Christi.

Arundel has a mainline rail station with frequent services to and from London Victoria, Gatwick Airport, Portsmouth, Brighton and the local towns of Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Chichester and Worthing.
