Things to do in Gosport

Gosport provides one of the best sailing areas in the world, and with so many ways to enjoy sailing and watersports you will find yourself spoilt for choice when deciding the best way to take to the water

With boat/yacht hire, sailing tuition, marinas (all with deep-water access), fishing trips, wind-surfing, kite-surfing, paddle-boarding, kayaking and jet-skiing there is something for all ages and abilities. The beaches at Stokes Bay and Lee-on-the-Solent offer great sea swimming in designated zones.

You will also find a range of self-catering properties and hotels for crew accommodation plus numerous chandleries and plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants.

Impressive Heritage

Find out what lurks beneath the waves at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum. Take a tour of Britain’s only surviving WW2 era ocean-going submarine to discover what it was like to live and work on a submarine.

Learn about the weapons used by the Royal Navy at Explosion! - Museum of Naval Firepower - an award winning museum of naval warfare set within the 18th century buildings of the Royal Navy's former armaments depot at Priddy's Hard.

Follow the 2 mile Millennium Waterfront Trail that links these two sites to enjoy spectacular views across Portsmouth Harbour taking in the Falkland Gardens, the ‘Timespace’ sundial.

The Diving Museum showcases the best range of military, commercial and recreational diving equipment in Europe (perhaps the World!). Whilst just along the coast is The Hovercraft Museum in Lee-on-the-Solent and home to the only one in the world. It’s diverse and extensive collection consists of over 50 hovercraft, ranging in size from single-seat fun craft to the giant SRN4 that used to operate across the English Channel.

Moving away from the maritime theme, another fascinating option is to wander through the 1642 Living History Village to see ‘villagers’ dressed in period costumes demonstrating the skills of the blacksmith, lace-makers and weavers. Whilst at the English Heritage owned Fort Brockhurst you can see what life was like for Victorian soldiers charged with defending England from invasion.

Active Gosport

If you are after some high octane excitement then you can’t beat the Go-Karts at the indoor Team Sport’s Karting track. Ice skating fans should get their skates on, and head for ‘Planet Ice’ Rink, next door to the new Gosport Leisure Park with its swimming pool, sports hall, health & fitness and dance studios.

If you like BMX then head for the Gosport BMX Track, the club there hosts regular races and events throughout the year.

‘Monkey Bizness’ – an indoor multi-activity soft play centre is great for kids aged up to 12 years of age.

The countryside of the Alver Valley offers good cycle networks and a range of walks and trails suitable for all abilities and ages.
