When are the Summer Holidays in 2021?

Most schools across the South East break up for the summer holidays on Friday 23rd July 2021, returning on Thursday 2nd September 2021.   The summer holidays also include the August Bank Holiday weekend which always sees a host of events, family activities and music festivals running across the destination.  There is plenty to be excited about this summer, and the with the weather forecast looking good too, there will be lots of things to keep everybody entertained over the six weeks.  

South East England covers the nine counties and as a destination there is a host of outdoor events and indoor activities on offer this summer holiday.  Our online calendar features an ever-growing list, with a mix of events to suit all tastes and budgets, from family friendly activities, informative exhibitions, value added experiences and internationally renowned events, that hopefully will be back welcoming hundreds of visitors to the South East. To find something near you in a specific county, use the links below or try a date search if you are looking for something to fill a quiet day.

Don't forget that you can also take advantage of many of the free things to do across the destination, so the six weeks school holidays doesn't have to cost the earth and our rainy day and sunny day guides will help ensure you enjoy a great day out whatever the English weather brings.

  • Take a steam ride with Bluebell Railway, Uckfield, East Sussex.  Join them for their fantastic Road Meets Rail event on the 17- 18th July or the Model Railway Weekend on the 31st July and 1st August and experience an array of tiny little worlds.
  • Discover the two new major exhibitions at Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire. 'Churchill' and 'The Stables' both with interactive displays and never-seen before artefacts.
  • Head to the internationally renowned Wakehurst, Haywards Heath, Sussex, home to the Millennium Seed Bank and 500 acres of landscape and experience their Summer of Sound event (9th July - 12th Sept).  Or head After Hours to enjoy live performances, open-air cooking and spoken word (12th - 15th Aug)
  • Discover 250 carefully selected sculptures set throughout the Victorian Flower Garden, Palace House and Beaulieu Abbey in the New Forest, Hampshire. 19th June - 30th Aug.
  • Fill your day with action and adventure and experience the low ropes, archery, fire lighting, high ropes and more on a Woodland Adventure Day in the New Forest, Hampshire.
  • Join the team from the Hawk Conservancy Trust inWeyhill, Hamsphire, for their African Sunset Safari event on the 24th July, for a evening of aerial antics and tales of native wildlife in Africa.
  • Dive into a world of colour by exploring 56 interlocking chambers of colour, light, space and music at Waddesdon Manor, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. (28th July - 8th Aug)
  • Explore Maidstone, Kent and discover a herd of 51 fabulously colourful and unique Elmer elephants this summer - Elmer's Big Heart of Kent Parade. (19th June - 22nd August)   
  • Immerse yourself in medieval history at this years Loxwood Joust, Billingshurst, West Sussex (7th, 8th, 14th, 15th Aug). Experience a world where lives were harsh, and hearts were passionate.
  • Enjoy a magical afternoon at Enchanted Leonardslee.  With live music, performance and a beautiful woodland trail to explore.(30th July - 8th Aug)
