Set in beautiful rural Hampshire, Whitchurch Silk Mill is a rare survivor of England’s industrial heritage. This 19th‑century water‑powered Mill continues to weave fine silk fabrics on original Victorian machinery, making it one of the few working silk mills of its kind in the country.
Open to the public, the Mill is a place where history is not just displayed but brought to life. Visitors can see the original waterwheel turning, hear the machinery in motion, and watch silk being woven much as it has been for over 150 years.
Whether you’re fascinated by historic machinery, drawn to the beauty of silk, exploring Victorian history as a family, or simply looking for a memorable day out, there is something here for everyone. Alongside the looms and fabrics, you’ll find a shop offering silk products made at the Mill, all set beside the tranquil River Test.
With its peaceful riverside setting and tearoom serving lunches and refreshments, Whitchurch Silk Mill offers a distinctive and enriching day out, combining craft, heritage, and story in a place shaped by centuries of weaving.
