Sussex Archaeological Society and Brighton Young Archaeologist's Club presents a festival of archaeology inspired creativity at the fabulous Gun Garden at Lewes Castle.
There are several events and workshops happening on the day with plenty of stalls to visit. Below are some of the amazing contributors appearing at the festival.
Archaeodiscovery- Archaeology-inspired play!
At Archaeodiscovery we use our professional experience and creative thinking to bring archaeology to you. Through the wonder of discovery we can help you investigate the past.
Archaeodiscovery will run a stall throughout the day showcasing their archaeology inspired children's activity boxes and colouring bundles. They will also deliver an hour-long interactive workshop investigating an archaeological theme- adults and kids welcome!
Jake R. Wilson, Archaeologist Author of Cursed Tales The Pharaoh of Asco Express
Bringing ancient scares to life! Can you survive the night at Asco Express? Jake R. Wilson will be signing copies of his book and showing off a wide range of artefacts for kids to explore.
Geodime: Geomatics and 3D data capture for the heritage industry.
Geodime uses a range of survey methods (terrestrial laser scanning, photogrammetry, and LiDAR) to capture 3D information of heritage buildings. Our models can be ultilised in a variety of ways; from creating a snapshot for digital preservation, assisting with restoration planning as well as inspection and degradation monitoring. 3D information can also be used for many creative purposed such as the basis of visual reconstruction as well as being ultilsed within the gaming industry.
We invite you to come and interact with our digital 3D models from our recent work and archives and have a go at creating a photogrammetric model of your own.
The Pointy End – Ancient Crafts and Flintwork
The Pointy End brings the Stone Age to life, showcasing flintknapping and other ancient skills. There will be an opportunity to handle replica artefacts and natural materials used by our prehistoric ancestors.
Pasteleria, Virgen de los Remedios
Is making the long journey across land and sea as well as going back in time to bring you delicious archaeology inspired biscuits and cakes for all to enjoy.
Sussex Finds Liaison Team
The Sussex Finds Liaison Team, who work on the Portable Antiquities Scheme, recording artefacts found by members of the public will be at the festival from 10am to 2pm. Jane and Finlay from the team will be there to take a look at any of your finds, as well providing an opportunity to see real archaeological finds up close.
