Folkestone, Hythe and Dymchurch
Hythe Beach in Kent is predominantly shingle with wide shallow sand flats exposed at low water. This Kent coast beach is backed by a promenade and the town of Hythe and is located midway between Folkestone and Dymchurch.
The beach is a popular choice for fishing and is much quietier that many of the other Kent beaches. There is usually plenty of parking places to be found along the promenade. Visitors should be aware that the beach slopes steeply into the sea so it can become deep quickly when the tide is in.
The promenade is two miles long and is open to cyclists and pedestrians, with a number places selling ice-creams, food and beverages, along with plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view.
On clear days it is possible to see the distant shores of France across the Channel.
Dogs can visit the main beach between 1st October and the 30th April, they are not allowed from 1st May - 30th September, but they can enjoy a walk on the promenade on a lead.
Toliets can be found at Marine Parade (Hythe Pool), Oaklands, Stade Street (Library)
Hythe Beach is part of Hythe Bay which stretches from Folkestone down to the headland of Dungeness and is lined by beaches. Other local beaches include Sandgate Beach (shingle, 1.9 mile away), Dymchurch Beach (sandy/shingle, 2 miles away), and Folkestone's Sunny Sands (sandy, 5 miles away).
