This summer English Heritage is joining forces with the Aardman Academy to explore history and heritage across England through stop motion animation.
From the home of Charles Darwin to forts, factories and castles, there's a place and space to spark everyone's creativity!
We're inviting anyone aged 11-25 to get involved. Visit our sites and use them, and the many stories found there, as inspiration for your own stop motion animation.
Home of Charles Darwin - Down House will host professional animators from the multi-award-winning Aardman studios on Wednesday 7th August. So, you (and your families) will have the opportunity to meet animators (and maybe some familiar chickens), ask questions, take part in workshops, and be inspired to create your own short animated film at home to share with us!
Animation Displays and Workshops:
The Aardman Academy is a world-class training facility based at the world-famous studio's HQ and is committed to nurturing talent and inspiring the next generation of storytellers. On the day you can meet Aardman animators Hannah Brooks and Zoe Hutber who will talk through their process of creating award-winning animations. No booking is required to view the displays but normal site entry fees may apply (please see English Heritage's Home of Charles Darwin - Down House webpage for further details).
Short, 40-minute workshops will introduce you to ways of bringing stories and characters to life. Using freely available kit, materials and apps, Hannah and Zoe will help you develop your skills in paper animation, offering tips and tricks for creative storytelling. You will be able to take a close look at some real Aardman puppets, but you'll be creating films with everyday items so that you can continue with your creations when you get home.
Workshops are available for those aged 11-25 and require booking in advance as places are limited. So book quickly to avoid disappointment!
Young people aged under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
