Former curator Tim Craven presents his unique take on British art history in four linear parts through the works in the City Art Gallery's major new collection display, From the Renaissance to the Present Day. These gallery talks will be peppered with anecdotes of trivia, history, acquisition and conservation acquired through 44 years of close contact with Southampton's pre -eminent fine art collection.

Wed 1 May: A late developer: the English School of painting and its particularities
Wed 5 June: Climate and compromise: the British version of Post- Impressionism
Wed 3 July: Blitzkrieg: how World War 2 skewed British art
Wed 4 Sept: Hothouse: the bewildering diversity of Postmodernism
Each 45 minute talk will stand alone and you don't need to have attended all four to enjoy each of the events. To book for other dates please return to the events page and scroll down. There will be 15 minutes for questions at the end, but please note that the gallery closes at 3pm, so if you wish to explore the gallery please do so before Tim's talk.
