Southampton is rich in history with the third longest medieval walls in England, and with more medieval wine vaults than any other town or city. The Romans, Saxons and Normans are all associated with the City, and it has always been the point of departure for English and British Armies - Edward III left from Southampton for Crecy, and Henry V for Agincourt. The Docks in Southampton are linked with the great transatlantic liners and modern cruising, but also played a major and important part in the preparations and embarkation for Normandy on D-Day. Jane Austen lived in the City as did many of her relations when Southampton was a spa resort. One of the most important events in Southampton's history was the sailing of the Mayflower and Speedwell in August 1620. Many events important to the success of that venture took place in Southampton.

See Southampton is a group of freelance guides who are committed to promoting the culture, history and heritage of Southampton.

They are instantly recognisable in their red jackets and by their See Southampton badge. We have won awards from Trip Advisor and Tourism South East.
