First held in 1826, Cowes Week is one of the UK's longest-running sporting events and a highlight of the British summer calendar. Hosted on the world-famous waters of the Solent, the regatta attracts sailors, spectators and sailing enthusiasts from across the globe.
Today, North Sails Cowes Week is recognised as the world's largest sailing regatta of its kind, combining world-class racing with a vibrant programme of shoreside entertainment, hospitality and social events.
Building on the success of the 2026 bicentenary celebrations, the event welcomes around 5,000 sailors competing aboard more than 600 boats, with racing taking place across 35 classes on the Solent. Spectators can expect thrilling action on the water, with multiple race starts and finishes creating a spectacular sight throughout the week.
From Olympic medallists and professional racing crews to passionate amateur sailors, Cowes Week attracts competitors of every level. The regatta's unique mix of historic traditions, competitive racing and modern sailing excellence makes it one of the most prestigious events in the international sailing calendar.
Ashore, visitors can enjoy a lively festival atmosphere, with waterfront bars, restaurants, live entertainment and a packed social programme helping to create the unmistakable Cowes Week experience. Tens of thousands of spectators visit the Isle of Wight each year to watch the racing and soak up the atmosphere in Cowes.
Whether you're taking part on the water or watching from the shoreline, Cowes Week 2027 promises an unforgettable celebration of sailing, sport and summer on the Isle of Wight.
