About

Yaverland Beach is one of the Isle of Wight’s best beaches, providing a long stretch of sand and great swimming waters for children and families. Yaverland has a few smallish rocks dotted here and there and when the tide is out the sandy beach expands across acres. The beach stretches north east from the Yaverland Sailing and Yacht Club all the way to the foot of the chalk cliffs of Culver Down.

Pathways through the undergrowth on the cliffs lead from the coastal path to the beach or vice versa. The orange sandstone cliffs gradually increase in height as they move towards the white chalk of Culver cliff and it is around here that fossil remains can be found – this is a one of the Isle of Wight’s Dinosaur beaches! Be sure you book a guided fossil walk at nearby Dinosaur Isle so that you can discover your own piece of pre-history.

Yaverland is popular with water-sports fans, you'll see people catamaran and dingy sailing, kite surfing, windsurfing, surfing and even out in their Thundercats if you come to this beach, although the sea is sectioned so that there are safe bathing areas.

Dogs are welcome all year round at Yaverland beach to the left of the car park.

There's a beach shop and cafe at the southern end of the car park, where there are also public toilets that get their power from solar cells and a wind turbine!

TOP TIPS:
Check the tide tables as at high tide there is very little beach but at low tide you have miles of sand and can walk all the way to the dinosaur strata.

GETTING THERE:
There is a large car park but the beach is also served by the Southern Vectis bus service. For bus information please visit the Southern Vectis website - www.islandbuses.info/.

You can walk from Sandown along the promenade, in fact you can walk from here all the way to Ventnor along the coast if you wish.
