Basingstoke and Deane
Overton is a large attractive village in Hampshire, located on the famous River Test which has it’s source 1 mile to the east in Ashe. There is evidence of habitation since the Stone and Bronze Ages with finds and barrows located nearby.
The village is close to Watership Down Country and makes an ideal stop when exploring the Hampshire countryside. The area has a history of banknote paper manufacture starting in the 18th Century and Overton Mill still produces banknotes for the Bank of England. Much of the village is a conservation area.
The village holds a unique event every four years (July 2028), the sheepfair history dates back to medieval times, when sheep drovers from across the district brought their livestock to be seen and sold in the village. Today the sheepfair opens with a herd of sheep running through the main thoroughfare, lined with amazing stalls and buzzing with entertainment.
