There's still time to enjoy the 'Trunks across the Thames'  family-friendly elephant trail, which takes place across Eton, Slough, and Windsor running until 13 September 2026.  The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead events calendar is still bursting with events even when the summer holidays are over with the Big Ascot Food and Wine Racing Weekend (4 - 5 September), Windsor Festival (18 September - 11 October)  and The Windsor Fringe (25 September - 17 October), all taking place over the autumn. Have you visited the new look Windsor Castle gardens (on until 13th September) or had a go at conquering the tower at Windsor Castle (until 28th September)

2026 is a particularly special year in Reading, when both the original Bayeux Tapestry and the UK's full‑scale Victorian replica are in the same country for the first time with the original arriving for a landmark exhibition at the British Museum from September 2026 to July 2027, while Britain's full‑size 1886 replica remains proudly on display at Reading Museum. Combine your visit with the chance to experience the free Heritage Open Days (11 - 20 September), which invite visitors and residents alike to explore the churches, chapels, historic buildings and hidden heritage sites. Don't miss the chance to explore the fantastic shopping opportunities in Reading with its brand-packed high street, shopping centres and large department stores including John Lewis Reading, perfect for autumn with its cooler and mixed weather days.
