A series of monthly online history talks hosted on Zoom and led by Andy Skinner (Learning & Engagement Officer at SeaCity Museum and Tudor House & Garden). All of the talks are designed to be fun, accessible and rooted in the history and archaeology of the city. Each talk will last approximately 1 hour.
Southampton played a monumental role in the embarkation of troops and equipment during Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy which began on 6th June 1944: D-Day. Over the next year three and a half million service personnel passed through the port of Southampton, along with 250,000 vehicles. This was more than any other British port during the Second World War. This final talk in the 'Southampton Through Time' series will unpick the vital part the town played in the history of 'The Greatest Day'.
