Discover a unique weekend of railway heritage, historic locomotives and seasonal ales at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway's Shunt Fest and Dark Ales Festival.
Taking place on 7 and 8 November 2026, this popular event shines a spotlight on the hardworking diesel shunting locomotives that played a vital role in Britain's railway and industrial history. Alongside the railway action, visitors can enjoy a specially curated Dark Ales Festival, featuring a range of rich winter brews served at Havenstreet Station.
With free site entry, live railway demonstrations, heritage diesel locomotives and great food and drink, it's an ideal day out for railway enthusiasts, ale lovers and families alike.
While express steam engines often took centre stage, shunting locomotives were the engines that kept Britain's railways running smoothly behind the scenes.
Used for assembling trains, moving freight wagons and managing busy railway yards, these compact yet powerful locomotives were essential to everyday railway operations. Shunt Fest offers a rare opportunity to see these historic machines in action and learn more about their important role in railway history.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can watch demonstrations showcasing the power, precision and versatility of the railway's fleet of vintage diesel shunters.
Take a ride behind the diesel locomotives in a traditional brake van.
Get up close to the railway's collection of diesel shunters and enjoy exclusive cab access opportunities.
Enjoy a Selection of Seasonal Winter Brews
