Godalming Museum tells the story of Godalming and the surrounding area and includes a few surprising connections. Opened in the 1980's its home is a 15th century timber-framed Wealden House, that is hidden behind a Georgina brick front.
Explore the prehistory of the local area, the origins of the town, Godalming’s association with the woollen industry, learn more about the extraordinary collection of artists and writers that lived and worked around the area. Delve through over 2,000 historic images (online) from the town and surrounding villages, discover local stories, local characters in the Godalming Hall of Fame including the founder of Georgia, the hero of the Titanic, Sir Winston Churchill and many more.
Uncover some surprising connecctions with public electricity and discover the art, architecture and gardens of Gertrude Jekkyll and Sir Edwin Lutyens. During the summer months the museum devises family-friendly trails to get everyone involved. You'll also find a coffee shop located in the ground floor exhibition space and a small walled museum garden based on a border in the garden Gertrude Jekyll designed for Millmead.
Godalming Museum is run in partnership by Godalming Town Council and the Godalming Museum Trust and relying on the skills and enthusiasm of its team of volunteers.

Nearest major road is A3. A3 from London or Portsmouth then follow the A3100 to Godalming. Signposted.
Nearest station is Godalming. Turn right and follow Mill Lane. Cross Station Road and use the pedestrian access to reach the High Street. Turn left, the museum is opposite the Old Town Hall.
