The Cathedral Cafe is one of Winchester’s hidden gems
You can find the newly refurbished Cathedral Cafe sheltered behind an ancient flint wall opposite the Cathedral. Its award-winning contemporary design, large terrace with Cathedral views and pretty walled garden make it a great place to meet friends for a coffee, lunch or afternoon tea.
The cafe reopened on 27th February 2023 after a short refurbishment and is complete with soft banquette-style seating, as well as new tables and chairs inside and in the courtyard, and new menus to showcase fresh, local ingredients prepared by a talented new chef. There will still be a familiar feeling, as the same friendly front of house staff are ready to welcome you back.
Access and facilities
The Cafe and terrace are both fully accessible, with toilet facilities in the building.
Location
Situated beyond the Cathedral Gift Shop, the Cafe offers a quiet location. Its wide glassed front looks onto a spacious slate paved terrace with café tables, chairs and parasols, sheltered by ancient flint and brick walls and a shady fig tree. Behind the refectory is a peaceful walled garden – a green space with lawns, picnic tables and a fine willow tree.
Hire for an event
The light and airy Refectory offers a fully stocked licensed bar, plenty of space for dancing, a pretty walled garden patio and amazing Cathedral views. This venue is the perfect choice for your special occasion celebration or evening corporate event. Find out more about this and other venue hire options at Winchester Cathedral.
