The Foresters Arms

About

Plant tubs and window boxes displayed at the front add a splash of colour to this whitewashed Grade II Listed building dating back to the 17th century. A real find in the heart of the Sussex countryside, the pub is perfectly situated for enjoying the South Downs National Park, with forest, woodland and costal walks right on the doorstep; on entering the bar you are immediately surrounded by the happy chatter of ramblers stopping in for refreshment. Heavy beams, green walls and a blazing open fire dominate, and once a month live jazz provides a background noise. Add to this great real ale and a very warm welcome from the hosts and you have all the ingredients for the perfect country pub.

The good honest food has been described as being ‘British with a touch of the Mediterranean - a little slice of sunny Provence with a sprinkling of good old Sussex, a smattering of Tuscany and a pinch of Andalucia’. However all the ingredients are sourced as close to home as possible with the seasons in mind. The menu is complimented by a compact but well thought out wine list. Out back, a neat secluded garden provides a great space to enjoy the sunshine with a chilled glass of wine or light lunch.

In an adjoining annex en-suite bedrooms provide neat and tidy accommodation with a rustic feel. Although small, the bedrooms are perfectly laid out, full of light and painted in fresh neutral shades. Chunky country-pine bedsteads dressed with crisp cotton bed linen dominate the room, and flowery cottage-style fabrics drape the windows. All rooms are equipped with LCD Freeview TVs with DVD players, hairdryers and iron and ironing boards. The cafetiere and infuser teapot, jug of fresh milk and fine array of tea (both caffeinated and herbal) add an extra special touch.
