About

Slough is a town in Berkshire, England, about 20 miles west of central London.

The town is home to the Slough Trading Estate, the largest industrial estate in single private ownership in Europe.

Slough has seen major redevelopment of the town centre with old buildings being replaced with new offices, shopping and housing developments.

Things to do in Slough

Slough town centre is just under a mile from the Jubilee River and 1.4 miles from the River Thames. Whilst in Slough why not experience the River Thames with Kris Cruises that operates a fleet of fully equipped luxury holiday boats on the the river with boats sleeping between 2 and 10 people. They are available for hire from as little as a 3 or 4 night short break to one week or more. Slough is home to Stoke Poges Memorial Gardens that were designed and laid out in the 1930’s by Edward White, a partner in Milner, White and Sons, a leading landscape architect firm of the day. The gardens are considered to be his best creation.

Explore the 500 acre country park of Black Park in Wexham that sits on the border of Slough.  As well as the large shaded Emma Sallis Adventure Playground with its swings, slides and seesaw, the park also has a lake with a popular 3.7-mile circular loop trail and is home to Black Park Go Ape. Here families can try the Nets Adventure - a series of giant nets suspended 20ft above the ground, tree top adventure with zip wires and high platforms or hire all-terrain Segaway or bikes to explore the park.

The Jubilee River is an artificial flood-relief channel 7.2 miles long, which takes the overflow from the River Thames, so alleviating flooding to areas in and around the towns of Maidenhead, Windsor, and Eton. Dorney Wetlands is a wildlife refuge along the Jubilee River which offers peaceful walking trails and is a great place for birdwatchers welcoming Grey Heron, Great Crested Grebe, Common Tern and more.

Dorneywood that is traditionally the country residence of a senior member of the Government, usually a Secretary of State or Minister of the Crown. It was given to us by Lord Courtauld-Thomson and it is administered by the Dorneywood Trust at no cost to the public or to the National Trust.
