Come mid-June the roses are glorious at Pashley Manor – the perfect time to celebrate these gorgeous blooms with a Special Rose Week at this quintessentially English garden on the border of Sussex and Kent.
Masses of gorgeous pinks can be found spilling out of their box hedged borders in the formal Rose Garden and the pale pink, abundant blooms of Rosa Irene Watts parade either side of the Rose Walk. In the Herbaceous Borders the many red hued shrub roses in the beds are complemented by rich red climbing roses on the eighteenth century walls, while in the pool garden the unusual silver sheened petals of Rosa Burgundy Ice charmingly mirror the gleam of the water. Such is the profusion of roses at this time that even the front of the house is covered in the pink tinged, creamy yellow flowers of the climbing Rosa Gloire de Dijon. Pashley's blend of old fashioned and modern roses are complemented by foxgloves, clematis, sweet peas and summer flowering shrubs.
Over the Special Rose Week there will be the opportunity to take a guided rose themed walk round the gardens and there is a great selection of potted roses, from 27 times Chelsea Gold Medal winners Peter Beales Roses, available to buy, as well as rose themed gifts from the Shop – even the menu in the café features rose inspired dishes over this week!
