Battle Abbey Reviews (from Trip Advisor)

Average rating 4.5/5 from 1,000 plus reviews

  • Very interesting day out. Great features including getting an audio commentary all the way round, as a disabled person I found the track very easy to walk on. Shop was lovely and very reasonably priced. Learnt lots about the history of the event

  • This is in the quaint town of battle which itself is worth a visit. Really interesting to hear about the history, I can remember learning about the 1066 battle of Hastings but really interesting to see where it took place. Lovely to spend time exploring the grounds and listening to the audio. It is a little over priced for non members which is my reason for not a 5 rating.

  • Like most people, we knew the 1066 date and the arrow in the eye bit, but we learnt so much more on our visit here. Everything is well signed and there are information boards all around, and plenty of level paths. Would certainly recommend climbing the approx. 73 spiral stone steps up to the roof top view - not for the infirm or faint hearted, but well worth it once you got to the top! There is a coffee shop and a very good kids play area and the usual retail outlet and small plant sale. Would have given this the extra star if the rather pushy guy on the entrance desk had not tried quite so hard to flog us annual member ship to English Heritage.

  • When we get there we straight away bought annual passes as our kids love castles and history. We were informed they were running a bug hunt activity, so we thought why not.... OMG was brilliant, we were in 10.30 group, about 9kids. Ellis was brilliant at capturing the kids imagination and added plenty of adult humour. My youngest has speech problems, but even he joined in and Ellis was very patient trying to understand him, as was Sam, who ran the creative activities afterwards.
