About

Jane Austen Regency Week is a 10-day festival held in Alton and Chawton each year. The festival includes 40+ events, which include the popular regulars including Alton Regency Day, Alton Regency Ball, talks, music, walks, tours and more.

Taking place from Friday 19th - Sunday 28th June 2026, this years program kicks off with a welcome at the Alton House Hotel from 6pm - 8pm with the chance to meet committee members and members of the Jane Austen family.

Other hightlights include:- 

  • Alton Regency Day - Saturday 20th June - Free - 10am - 3.00pm

Offering the chance to step back in time on Alton High Street with a lively porgramme of activites include horse drawn carriage rides, folk dancing, historical re-enactments and tradtional market stalls, along with people dressed in Regency costumes.

  • Alton Regency Parade - Saturday 20th June - Free - 11.00am - 11.30am

Join the promenade in all your finery from the Market Square in Alton up to the bust of Jane Austen at the Assembly Rooms

  • Jane Austen Mid-Summer Ball - Saturday 20th June - £75.00  - 7.30pm - 11.00pm

Taking place at Alton Assembly Rooms with dancing and Regency costume this summer ball is one of the highlights of the regency festival with buffet at half time, cash bar avaiable.

  • Alton Town Guided Walk - Saturday 20th June - £5.50 - 11am - 12.30pm

Join Alton town guide in Regency costume for walking tour through historic Alton

  • Knights family Regency Picnic at Chawton House - Sunday 21st June - £15.00 - 12.00 - 2.30pm
  • A Day in the life of Jane Austen at Chawton House - Monday 22nd June - £15.00 - 11.00am - 3.00pm
  • Drop in and Read at Jane Austen House - Friday 26th June - Free - 2.00pm - 4.00pm
  • Twilight Tour of Jane Austen House - Friday 26th June - £19.50 - 4.30pm - 5.30pm
