Step into the rotten realities of the Middle Ages with Horrible Histories this May Half Term at Leeds Castle!
From 26th to 31st May 2026, join Queen Eleanor of Castile on a horribly hilarious journey back to 1278, where life was far from fairy tales and feasting. In fact, it was much tougher, smellier and stranger than you might think.
Set off on a family adventure through the Castle grounds and uncover the disgusting truths and surprising secrets of medieval life. From gruesome food and ghastly hygiene to perilous travel and bonkers medicine, discover what it really took to survive. Along the way, tackle a series of interactive challenges designed to test your courage, wits and stomach.
Think you've got what it takes? Complete the trail and prove you're worthy of life in Queen Eleanor's court… if you're brave enough.
Take on the trail:
- On the Move: race like a medieval traveller – will you stomp like a peasant, gallop like a knight or wobble like royalty?
- Fabulous Feasts & Measly Meals: can you tell your pottage from your pizza? Sort medieval dishes from modern munchies.
- Crazy Cures: help Queen Eleanor rebalance her humours with weird and wonderful remedies – expect sneezing, silliness and a few surprises…
- Peasants' Playtime: join in with medieval games and lively storytelling.
- Hygiene Hacks: sniff out the scents of the past – are they posh perfumes or pongy problems? Brace yourselves!
- Knight School: train like a true defender of the realm and run the gauntlet in a test of bravery and skill.
