Stockbridge Down, Hampshire

About

As one of a number of remnant features in the surrounding landscape, Stockbridge Down offers a gateway to the past that is still relevant today.

Take a walk along this serene yet fascinating landscape to: rest on a bench erected in honour of Rosalind Hill, which donated Stockbridge Down to the National Trust in 1947; see the views from the lookout post at Woolbury Ring, an Iron Age hill fort with hand-dug ramparts, thought to be over 3,000 years old; walk across some of the best-preserved (and oldest – between 3,000 and 4,000 years old!) lynchets in the country; and photograph the 30+ species of butterflies, juniper trees and other rare flora and fauna.
