Explore the 1,000-year history of Oxford Castle Prison. Step back in time with our costumed guided tours and listen to fascinating stories as they are brought to life. 

UNLOCK 1,000 YEARS OF HISTORY

Dive into fascinating tales of traitors, royals and rebels, led by expert costumed guides. Hear vivid stories of those who lived, worked and served time within these ancient walls in the heart of the city centre.

Climb the 101 steps of a Saxon tower for panoramic views of the dreaming spires of oxford. Descend into the atmospheric candle-lit Crypt with connections to the legend of King Arthur. Wander inside prison cells that were once home to petty criminals and infamous inmates. 

Once you’ve ended your sentence on the guided tour, you are free explore the site and exhibition space at your leisure. Before you leave, head outside and climb to the top of Oxford’s ancient mound, the remains of the city’s motte and bailey castle.
