About

Herstmonceux is renowned for its magnificent moated castle, set in 550 acres of glorious parkland & superb Elizabethan gardens.

Built originally as a country home in the mid 15th Century, Herstmonceux Castle embodies the history of medieval England and the romance of renaissance Europe.

In the gardens you will find the formal gardens, including a walled garden dating from before 1570, a herb garden, the Shakespeare garden, woodland sculptures, the pyramid, the water lily filled moat and the Georgian style folly.

Reduced rates for groups of 15+

The castle is not open to the public, however guided tours are conducted at an extra charge & subject to availability. Please telephone for confirmation of times before your visit.

Get Married at Herstmonceux Castle

The Grounds and Gardens of Herstmonceux Castle is the perfect fairytale wedding venue.

Outside you and your guests can enjoy acres of parkland, carefully maintained lawns and formal period gardens containing hundreds of species of flowers and plants as well as an enclosed court yard and bridge entrance over the castle moat.

Inside we have a range of beautiful rooms to choose from. Depending on the size of your party we can provide an intimate rustic room with open fireplace and high ceilings or should you have a grand banquet in mind our magnificent ballroom is ideal for a reception to remember.
