Some 200 years old, the Royal Oak has produced an award-winning service for many years, and the splendour continues. Following a clever restoration by the current owners, oak timbering and exposed brick walls combine with bright colours and wall decorations to give a contemporary twist in all the right places. The timber-clad bar radiates a warm reception – an alluring open fire stands proudly as a symbol of the pub’s roots – and is stocked to the brim with a hefty selection of ales and wines. Upbeat modern cuisine from across the continents is expertly delivered to the chic restaurant by head chef Steve Ferre, while lighter dishes are served in the bar throughout the day.
