Join us for a special Terrific Tuesday as we commemorate 80 years since Victory in Japan Day (VJ Day)—the end of the Second World War. This unique day blends history, music, storytelling and hands-on activities for all ages.
Step back into the 1940s with live performances from The Bluebirds, who will be bringing the spirit of the era to life with vintage vocals at 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm.
Meet the Hitchhiking Historian and friends at their immersive jungle outpost—complete with a bamboo shelter, weaponry, and fascinating insights into life on the front line in the Far East. You'll also encounter members of the WW2 Home Guard, where you can explore their kit and hear about their vital role on the home front.
Take part in meaningful craft activities throughout the day. Fold origami peace cranes using traditional Japanese paper—these beautiful creations will be sent to the Children's Peace Monument in Hiroshima as a symbol of remembrance and hope. You can also make poppies for a growing on-site display and listen to the poignant story of Sadako Sasaki, the young girl from Hiroshima whose legacy inspired peace movements worldwide.
Get creative with the Dacorum and Chilterns Pottery Guild in a hands-on clay modelling session, and be sure to visit The Longest Yarn 2 Exhibition—a stunning 60-metre knitted tapestry depicting the war years from September 1939 to Victory in Europe Day. Please note: exhibition entry requires advance booking and a timed ticket.
All activities are included in your standard admission price. We recommend bringing a carrier bag to safely take your handmade items home.
This VE and VJ Day commemoration project is proudly supported with public funding from the UK Government through Arts Council England.
Join us for a powerful and engaging day of reflection, remembrance, and creativity.
£16 for Adults and £11 for kids when pre-booked
