The Quest Chronicle – The Story of the Shackleton-Rowett Expedition
In 1921, a converted Norwegian sealer, Quest, carried the legendary explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton on what turned out to be his last expedition, financed by close schoolfriend, businessman and philanthropist John Quiller Rowett. Join Dr Jan Chojecki, grandson of John Quiller Rowett, for a journey of discovery and learn more about the lesser-known Shackleton-Rowett (Quest) Expedition.
Dr Jan Chojecki's fascinating book The Quest Chronicle accounts the events that occurred before, during and after the voyage, told through the words of the protagonists with largely unpublished letters, logs and diaries.
This is an evening talk which will last around an hour and takes place in our Field Studies Centre as part of our Antarctic talk series. Limited edition signed and numbered copies of the book will be available to purchase on the night. If you wanted to learn more in advance, then do watch Dr Jan Chojecki interviewed on 4th January 2023 BBC 4 as part of the programme 'Shackleton's Cabin', which explores the restoration of Shackleton's cabin from the Quest sealer, which was recovered from Norway.
When you purchase your ticket it is for the in-person event, however you will also be sent a zoom link if you would prefer to watch the talk from home.
