The Fox & Hounds

About

A warm welcome awaits you at The Fox & Hounds, along with caring staff, log fire, high standards, excellent food and selection of fine beverages, including Real Ales!

The Fox & Hounds is located in the charming village of Uffington, South Oxfordshire, with thatched cottages in beautiful countryside surroundings. The Pub has 4 Star B&B Accommodation, a wood-beamed bar and unrivalled views of The Ridgeway and Uffington White Horse.

Situated in The Vale of White Horse between Oxford and Swindon, the nearest market towns are Farringdon and Wantage, each about fifteen minutes' drive from The Fox & Hounds. The Village has a 13th Century Church, shop and Post Office, and several literary connections: it was the early home of Thomas Hughes and John Betjeman lived here in the 1030's and 40's, during which time he wrote many famous works. Tolkien, while based in Oxford, visited this area as well, and it is said much of his inspiration for Middle Earth came from the Ridgeway nearby.

Not just a base for literary enthusiasts, The Fox & Hounds is also ideal lodgings for such active pastimes as walking, cycling, horse-riding, and angling, as well as some more relaxing activities like visiting historic properties, golfing, or just chilling out and reading a book at any time of the year! Feel free to bring along your own well-behaved hounds too (though foxes are strictly forbidden)!
