Is East Wittering a village or town?

East Wittering is a West Sussex seaside village located to the south of Chichester. It lies on the same shore as the Selsey Peninsular. The village is a short distance from the beach, with a friendly high street offering a range of local shops, cafes, a post office, bakeries, a fishmonger, and resturants. It is ideal for picking up essentials. East Wittering is a great option for a day by the beach with East Wittering beach just a 10 - 15 minute walk from the village.

Generally a very quiet location, on a good summers day there may be 25 sailors out, however they are spread across a very wide beach.

Three things you may not know about East Wittering

• Look south on the beach and you can see the Nab Tower, a relic of the First World War defences - built down the coast in Shoreham, West Sussex and now a lighthouse protecting shipping in the Solent.

• East Wittering is said to have its own mirco-climate caused by its position on the peninsular and the protection offered by the Isle of Wight.

• East Wittering and neighboring Bracklesham Bay served as the landing beach for the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division as part of large-scale rehearsals for the D-Day landings.
