Twyford Waterworks

About

Discover how the drinking water that's piped to all our homes has been pumped from deep within the Hampshire Downs for over 120 years! Watch the machinery once used to do this in action and learn about its history.
Twyford Waterworks will be open to the public on Sunday 2nd July where as much of the site will be open and in operation as possible! Come and enjoy the sights, sounds and smell of a working Edwardian Waterworks!

It is planned that the following will be available for visitors to see:

- Majestic Hathorn Davey steam pumping engine at work utilising steam from the Babcock & Wilcox boiler.

- Large Ruston diesel pumping engines with one running at various times during the day

- 1895 Crossley gas engine and other smaller pumps in operation

- Lime Kilns and water softening works, including the hydraulic (water powered) engines working

- Nature trail with pond and hide

- Industrial railway being demonstrated

- Visiting exhibits and displays.

The Tea Room will be serving a variety of light refreshments alongside a BBQ.
