The Mystery of the Luckiest Oyster Fisherman
In Worthing you can buy tasty treats from the sea. In a town like this, naturally a few rumours and tales are born. One of them is about Glen Bait, the oyster fisherman, who one day caught an unusually big oyster for his wife Gilda. The surprise was overwhelming when he realized that the gem inside was going to change their lives. “But where do we hide it?” they said.
Take a fun walk in the town centre of Worthing and solve the mystery!

Then it’s time to get into the story and head out and to search for clues while taking a nice walk through the city. You write your answers using your phone’s keyboard. A map is included in case you need one. In the second part of the mystery, it’s time to figure out the answer to the mystery from the clues you have collected. The best place to do so is at a local café!
How long does it take?
A mystery walk usually takes about 45–60 minutes to complete. The total distance is typically a few kilometers, but it can vary depending on the location. The part where you sit down and solve the mystery usually takes about 5 minutes. Of course, the coffee break can last longer, depending on your company.
How many people should be in the team?
One mystery works for one phone so you’ll need to purchase one digital mystery per team. We suggest 1–3 players per team to keep everyone involved. If you’re more than 3 we recommend that you divide the group into more teams and compete with each other. Who will solve the mystery the fastest?
When can I do it?
You can solve the mystery whenever it suits you—there’s no set day or time. However, we suggest daytime since the clues might be difficult to find in the dark. Also, clues can be hidden or disappear in snowy conditions.
How old should you be?
To get the most out of the experience, we recommend an age of around 10 and up when accompanied by an adult. This is due to the level of difficulty in the questions. Without adult help, ages 14–15 is a good guideline. We often hear that the activity suits the whole family – even younger children enjoy helping to search for clues. It also depends on how far you are able to walk.
What about wheelchairs and strollers?
Our mysteries take place in town centers, with routes along streets and squares. In some cases, you may need to climb up a few steps to find certain clues. However, a help button is always available if you need to skip a clue.
Our Smalltown Mysteries are also available in:
