IOW FestivalThe infamous Isle of Wight Festival in Seaclose Park, Newport is a date for the diary of all music lovers. The Isle of Wight first hosted the festival in 1968 and to this day celebrates a variety of music from retro to rock The previous six festivals have seen amazing performances by talented musicians, including the gifted Bob Dylan as headliner for 1969 Isle of Wight Festival.

History

IOW FestivalAugust 1968 saw the beginnings of Isle of Wight Festival with 10,000 people arriving to see acts including Jefferson Airplane, Arthur Brown, The Move, Plastic Penny, T-Rex and The Mirage.

In 1969 the second annual Isle of Wight Festival proved to be a huge success, with Bob Dylan headlining (playing to over 150,000 people) accompanied by The Who, Joe Cocker and Free.

The 1970 festival included Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Joni Mitchell, Miles Davies, Free, Leonard Cohen, Joan Baez, The Moody Blues and ELP. With over 600,000 people travelling to the Isle of Wight havoc was caused in the grounds and in 1970 the 'Isle of Wight Act' was passed by Parliament to ban all future festivals. Until 2002...
