Surrey is one of the counties of England that borders London to its south west side, spanning 642 square miles (1,679 sq km), it provides easy access to Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Berkshire.  Surrey is located in South East England, it has no coastline and is approximately 30 miles from the capital.

Surrey's proximity to the London means much of its wooded land is protected green belt, earning the county the nickname 'leafy Surrey'.  Surrey is also home to the centrally located Surrey Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), protected and conserved for its natural beauty (covering one quarter of the county).  This area is particularly known for its heather-clad countryside, wooded forests and meandering waterways and Box Hill which hosted part of the men’s and ladies Olympic road cycle races in July 2012.

Given Surrey's geography, there's no surprise to find a cluster of historic towns and villages to visit, including Godalming, Haslemere and Cranleigh - the largest village in England, alongside a wealth of attractions with great outdoor spaces, rural tourism, art and creativity links. The North Downs Way National Trail runs from Farnham in the west of Surrey, through to Oxted and into Dover in Kent.  The Thames Path National Trail also passes through Surrey for around 20 miles, with the annual 'Totally Thames festival' every September celebrating everything about the river.  A little further west, the county town of Guildford is the main pull for tourists visiting the area.
