Some of televisions most loved programs have been filmed within in the South East, from the detective thrillers of Morse and Midsomer Murders, through to the comedy classics of Vicar of Dibley and Darling Buds of May. Spend time set jetting your way around the region.
Lark Rise to Candleford, North Oxfordshire
The adaptation of Flora Thompson's Novel, Larkrise to Candleford hit our screens earlier this year and looks at life in the surrounds of rural Oxfordshire toward the end of the 19th century. Full of colourful characters and comedic twists and turns, Thompson based the story on her upbringing in Juniper Hill, a small hamlet in Oxfordshire, and was inspired by her neighbours to create parts such as Queenie. Visitors to Juniper Hill will find a blue plaque on the wall of the remains of End House where Thompson used to live with her brothers and sisters and see Queenie's thatched cottage.

Vicar of Dibley, Turville, Buckinghamshire
Following the twists and turns of female vicar Geraldine Granger's time serving a local parish, the popular Vicar of Dibley ran for multiple series with Dawn French taking the helm. Although the fictional Dibley is set in Oxfordshire, it was actually a location in Buckinghamshire that was used for filming. It is in the village of Turville that you can find St Barnabus Church, (actually named the Church of St Mary's) and, the all important vicarage.

Midsomer Murders, Various Locations
The Sunday night favourite Midsomer Murders is a drama series based on the crime novels of Caroline Graham. Focussing on the work of the central character, Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby, the series is based within the fictional county of Midsomer, a wealthy area full of eccentric characters. Running since 1997 it stars John Nettle of Bergerac fame. For those looking to venture into the treacherous county of Midsomer, there are a number of locations to investigate including the picturesque villages of Wallingford, Thame and Hambledon.

Inspector Morse, Oxford, Oxfordshire
Capturing the public's imagination, Inspector Morse was the tv adaptation of the books by Colin Dexter. Expertly brought to life by John Thaw and the fresh faced Kevin Whately, the series brought much acclaim and legions of fans, with the final three episodes pulling in 18 million. Filmed extensively in the university city of Oxford, you can retrace the steps of the Inspector even heading to Exeter College, where he suffered his fatal heart attack. Foyles War, Hastings, East Sussex
Following tales of murder, mystery and betrayal, Foyles War is a drama series set at the time of the Second World War. The lead character DCI Foyle, played by Michael Kitchen, is tasked with keeping crime off the streets in war stricken England, which he does with the assistance of ex soldier Paul Milner and his driver Samantha, daughter of the vicar! Foyles War, is set amongst the cobbled streets of Hastings Old Town, walk along the twittens and you will recognise many scenes from the series and can even spot the DCI's house.

My Boy Jack, Batemans, East Sussex
My Boy Jack was a one off drama that reached our screens in November of 2007. The program looked at the real life relationship between Jungle Book author, Rudyard Kipling and his son John, who died during World War I. The impressive cast included David Haig (also the writer), Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe and Kim Cattrall of Sex in the City Fame. Filming took place at Batemans, Kipling's home in East Sussex, now a National Trust property and open to the public from March - November.

Sense and Sensibility, various locations
The Jane Austen classic, Sense and Sensibility, was beautifully retold in 2008 with a full scale BBC adaptation. Re-visiting the love lives of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, the series was shot around the UK with locations in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Surrey, where the stunning Loseley Park was used.

The Darling Buds of May, Pluckley, Kent
Based on the novel by HE Bates, the Darling Buds of May centres around life with the loveable Larkin family, rural farmers in the heart of Kent. With David Jason and Pam Ferris taking the reins as ma and pop Larkin, the show launched with a stellar cast, and throughout the series saw the rise to fame of a now world famous actress - Catherine Zeta Jones. It was the quaint village of Pluckley in Kent that doubled for the on-screen adaptation, with the village's St Nicholas Church and Black Horse pub both making an appearance.
