AUTUMNAL FLOWER DISPLAYS FILL CASTLE ROOMS
16th September 2008
Fabulous autumnal flower arrangements fill the castle rooms at romantic Leeds Castle, near Maidstone in Kent from Wednesday 1st – Sunday 5th October. The Autumn Gold Flower Festival showcases the talents of some of the county’s finest floral artists and marks the changing seasons in a truly innovative way.
Visitors are invited to vote for their favourite room, with local flower arrangers, designer florists and colleges competing to create the best floral arrangement. With a number of exciting new participants bringing fresh ideas and approaches, including a previous Chelsea Flower Show winner, the diverse interpretations should be sensational.
This year the participants have drawn their inspiration from the style and décor of the room they decorate. Floral exhibits combine seasonal blooms and foliage with berries and seed heads to dramatic effect. Some include silk and oriental designs, while others have chosen art deco as their theme, echoing the elegant style of the castle’s last private owner, Lady Baillie.
Last year’s winner, Robin White from Faversham, has been invited back as a guest florist to create a display in the Henry VIII Banqueting Hall. Robin won first prize for his colourful creation in Lady Baillie’s Bedroom, which reflected her love of exotic birds. The castle florists will decorate the Lower Bridge Corridor leading to the Gloriette, continuing the floral exhibits throughout the castle.
Besides adding a fresh dimension to the historic castle rooms, Autumn Gold provides inspiration in abundance. Stroll through the elegant interiors and immerse yourself in fragrant displays before placing your vote.
