Last chance to lose yourself in Exbury’s maze
27th August 2008
After the Exbury maize maze’s most successful season, there are just a few days left to explore the exciting puzzle and solve the riddle of the ‘Lost City’.
The six-acre maze, featuring the lost city of El Nummares and its ancient civilization, closes to the public on Tuesday September 2.
Maze manager Vicky Scott, who designed the 2008 maze which is laid out in the shape of a huge temple, is delighted with the public response.
“I think the challenge of exploring an ancient city with a dark secret and a hidden treasure has appealed to children and parents alike,” she said. “Everyone is enjoying the journey through the maze and the chance to solve the riddle.”
Winding pathways between ‘hedges’ of quick-growing corn lead to dead ends, loops or the centre of maze with its golden temple. On the way there are questions to be answered and clues to follow.
“We think this is our best maze yet,’ said Vicky, who is already planning a new puzzle for 2009. “Anyone who hasn’t had a go at solving the puzzle, still has a chance.”
Exbury’s Maize Maze is open up to and including 2 September. It is situated in a large field across the road from Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway.
Included within entrance to the Lost Civilizations Maze is a puzzle courtyard and a smaller wooded mini-maize designed for the very young. Refreshments are available, and nearby Mr Eddy’s Restaurant at the entrance to the Gardens has designed a special Maize Maze menu. The Maze is open daily between 10am – 5.00pm.
A joint admission ticket to the Maze and the Gardens is available.
