Celebrate Nelson’s Birthday in style at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard’s Model Boat Weekend

27th August 2008

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard will play host to an array of model boats and a re-enactment of the famous Battle of Trafalgar on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September in what promises to be another successful Model Boat Weekend.

The model boat and warship exhibition will provide an interesting showcase from the 18th century to the modern day and visitors will be able to witness the Battle of Trafalgar in miniature form on the Mast Pond. The realistic re-enactment will be complete with explosions and smoke which will commemorate Admiral Lord Nelson’s 250th Birthday.

There will also be a few have-a-go boats for children and the rare opportunity to glimpse at the Royal Naval Museum’s reserve model boat collection.

The Mast Pond is a key archaeological feature of the dockyard dating back to 1665. It is a perfect setting for a display of this kind as it carries its own history, having played many roles in the working dockyard at a time when it was the world centre for mast making.

This weekend long event will be running from 10am to 5.30pm and is free with a valid attraction ticket or an adult ticket for this event only will cost £2.50.
