Medieval Merriment at Rochester Castle

Visitors to Rochester Castle will be taken on a journey through the Middle Ages over the weekend of 6 and 7 September.

Produced by Black Knight Historical Events, Medieval Merriment will include an archery shoot, minstrels and dancers, storytellers recanting Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, a tournament of knights, cookery and food displays, crafts, games and even a medieval surgeon.

Ian Pycroft, Conceptual designer and owner of Black Knight says: “Colourful performers from the Middle Ages will be setting up encampments on site demonstrating how we lived, worked, prayed, fought, played, and died between 1066 and 1485.

Some of England's best medieval living history performers have been assembled for this spectacular event, including the Feudal Archers, the Paladins of Chivalry and the Household of St Michael and St Gabriel.

It promises to be a really special day out for all the family and we are excited to 'make history happen' at Rochester”.

Cllr Howard Doe, portfolio holder for Community Services said: "This will be a great opportunity for visitors and residents to see the castle brought to life, giving a real insight into the life and times of the castle as well being a lot of fun for the family”. 

The activities take place in the castle grounds from 11am to 5pm on both days and entrance to the event is free.  Admission prices for the Castle Keep, within the Castle gardens are £5 for adults and £4 for children and concessions, and £14 for a family ticket.  For further information contact 01634 402276
