Blenheim Palace - The untold story

11th April 2008

A new permanent visitor experience is open upstairs within the heart of the Palace where visitors can discover more details about life at Blenheim Palace over the last three centuries. ‘Blenheim Palace: The Untold Story’ brings to life enticing tales of the dramatic history, events and the people who have lived here, through the eyes of the household staff.
Follow Grace Ridley, a virtual Lady’s Maid as she introduces you to some of the more colourful characters who have lived at Blenheim Palace such as the wilful 1st Duchess Sarah Churchill, and the fascinating 8th Duke who, with a loud crackle and flash of light, appears within his Victorian laboratory.  Here he tells of his pioneering experiments, including the introduction of electricity to the Palace in 1888, and even demonstrates the use of a Thomas Edison phonogram. Understand more about the lives of the servants, their working conditions and their relationships with the family.
The new experience utilizes the latest technology to bring history alive including talking portraits, animated figures, touch screens and innovative projection and video technology. There are information rooms where there is more to be discovered about the detailed history of Blenheim Palace, the Marlborough family and in particular the household staff who have worked at the Palace over the last 300 years.
‘Blenheim Palace: The Untold Story’ lasts approximately 35 minutes and is included within the Palace, Park and Gardens ticket price.  No separate ticket is required.
