The River Thames
The River Thames is truly one of the great rivers of the world, and as well as a great range of things to do, it has a variety of accommodation providers too.
While the river itself offers some excellent boating, fishing and canoeing opportunities, you don't have to be on the water to enjoy it!
The Thames Valley includes some of the most stunning towns in the country, from the dreaming spires of Oxford to the majestic castle at Windsor. The river also flows through some picture-postcard English villages and three separate Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Of course, you can also find some of the best shopping in the south at locations such as the Oracle Shopping Centre in the town of Reading. Unexpected attractions lie dotted along the length of the River Thames too - head into Beale Park in Berkshire to see the exotic birds and animals.
Things to see and do on the River Thames...
- See the inspiration for Toad Hall from the enduring children's classic, The Wind in the Willows at Mapledurham House in Oxfordshire.
- And, if you want to get further into the world of Ratty, Mr. Toad and Badger, pop into the River and Rowing Museum in Henley-on-Thames which features a wonderful Wind in the Willows exhibition.
- Step into history and stay at Cliveden - now a luxury hotel on the River Thames. Just about every monarch since George I has stayed here – as did Christine Keeler who was involved in Profumo scandal in the 1960s.
