An Elizabethan fort built beside the River Medway in 1559 to defend the Royal Naval Dockyards at Chatham. It was enlarged in 1599, the interior containing examples of ammunition and displays relating to the battle against the Dutch in theMedway in 1667. There are cannons in the grounds, reputedly recovered from ships sunk during the battle. There is also an interpretative model which uses audiovisual displays to graphically illustrate the Dutch raid in 1667.
