About

From central London, and the Highlands of Scotland, to Hong Kong and Mauritius, Y Stations were involved in intelligence gathering across all theatres of conflict during the Second World War, yet little is known about their many locations and the individuals who ran them.

Join the GCHQ Departmental Historian, Dr David Abrutat, to discover the history of one of the oldest Y stations in the world, the original site in Scarborough, Sandybed Lane. Much of its history has been pieced together over the last two years. The station and its dedicated operators were involved in the interception of thousands of enemy communications including German Naval and Naval Air messages, throughout the First and Second World Wars.
