Sir Harold Hillier Gardens

Discover beauty and inspiration through landscaped features, woodlands and walkways at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens.

Established in 1953 by distinguished plantsman Sir Harold Hillier, the magnificent collection of over 42,000 plants from temperate regions around the world are set within 180 acres.

The Gardens display stunning seasonal variation and include 12 National Plant Collections, Gurkha Memorial Garden, 200 metre long summer flowering border, pond area, Bog Garden, the largest Winter Garden of its kind in Europe, and Children’s Education Garden which was opened in 2006 by Sir David Attenborough.

Children under 17 come into the Gardens for FREE and will love not only exploring the Gardens but playing on the fantastic play features dotted around the Gardens. The amazing Tree House is a must to visit with its climbing wall, nets and slide. Children always have great fun walking along the wobbly bridge or relaxing in the Flying Carpet Swing not to mention running through the bamboo tunnels or playing ‘tunes’ with the bamboo chimes in the Education Garden .

With Events, Workshops and Exhibitions all year round there is so much to do at the Gardens . Events include - Art In the Garden sculpture exhibition where sculptures are displayed around the Gardens to Summer Evening Concerts with Fireworks. Workshops are great for learning a craft such as Painting, Photography or Jewellery Making and with our Art and Craft exhibitions that are free to walk around Sir Harold Hillier Gardens really is a great day out for all the family.

Open all year bar Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Last entry one hour prior to closing.
