Bursledon Brickworks Museum
A chance to see the only remaining steam driven brickworks remaining in the country. Once a thriving business making 20 million bricks a year the factory closed in 1974 still using all its original Victorian machinery and buildings. With a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund the old brickworks are being transformed into a museum. There you can see the existing buildings and a huge collection of clay building materials including over 100 chimney pots!
The story takes the visitor round the museum following the route of a lump of clay as it becomes a brick. There are lots of hands on activities for all ages – you can even try making your own brick. The Brickworks are unique and nationally recognized as being very important – why not come and see what all the fuss is about?
