About

Known locally as ‘King John’s Castle’, Odiham Castle is located within a tranquil site adjacent to the Basingstoke Canal.

This site has witnessed and been part of many historical events, from the signing of the Magna Carta, a French siege to the ownership of the de Montforts, a revolt and even the imprisonment of a Scottish King.

Accessibility

  • All Areas Accessible to Disabled Visitors - The towpath from Odiham is level, but being adjacent to water must be approached with care. There is a surfaced ramp from the towpath to the castle, thereafter access is firm and level

Parking & Transport

  • On site parking close by - there is no on-site parking – the castle is only accessible from the towpath and the Colt Hill car park which is a mile and half away down the towpath.

Road Directions

Odiham Town is signposted from J5 of the M3. The wharf at Colt Hill (to the Eastern end of the town) has plenty of parking, and the canal barge leaves from here on day trips to the castle.

Public Transport Directions

The best way to reach Odiham castle is by walking along the towpath from Odiham, or travel by canal barge from Odiham Town wharf.
