Some of our favourite fun and interesting dates for the calendar include the multiple award winning Bestival and Walking Festival on the Isle of Wight, the Festival Theatre at Hever Castle in Kent, fabulous Henley Festival in Oxfordshire, the all-action Loxwood Joust and 950th anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Hastings in Sussex, the thrill of the Festival of Speed and the nostalgia of Goodwood Revival near Chichester.
Best events in August
August is Rhino Month at Cotswold Wildlife Park with daily talks, activities and competitions to raise awareness of rhino conservation. This year marks the 950th anniversary of the 1066 Battle of Hastings and throughout August, there are 66 fun things to do for kids and adults at Battle Abbey.
The UK's biggest chilli festival returns to Sussex from August 5th to 7th, join the party and dance to live Latin music, watch cookery and gardening demonstrations and taste delicious chilli foods 'til your tongue sizzles. Also this weekend, Pride returns to Brighton after a record-brekaing year.
Cowes Week is the oldest and largest annual sailing regatta in the World and the Solent is once again set to be awash with spectacular racing. And you couldn't make it up, the Isle of Wight Jigsaw Puzzle Festival is the perfect quirky rainy day activity for tourists visiting the island.
It's 150 years since the birth of Beatrix Potter and Mottisfont Abbey is hosting a series of storytelling and activities of Peter Rabbit and friends.
Competitors take to the skies at Ascot on August 13th and 14th for the Red Bull Air Race World Championship or on the same weekend, we hope exhibits at the Umbrella Festival in Portsmouth won't get much use until the winter. Eastbourne also hosts its annual airshow this weekend while on the following weekend, air enthusiasts can enjoy the Bournemouth Air Festival.
There's a bumper selection of events across the Bank Holiday weekend, not least the White Cliffs Walking Festival. England's Medieval Festival at Herstmonceux Castle and Oxfordshire's Festival of Transport are a couple of other highlights.
