Since 2017, The Grange Festival has been continuing the great legacy of opera at The Grange in Hampshire. Following the vision of Michael Chance, our Artistic Director, The Grange Festival aims to present a varied programme each summer which includes tried and tested operatic masterpieces as well as more daring leaps into the unknown. In 2018, we had a range of dazzling evenings including the debut of Dance@TheGrange curated by Wayne McGregor, the Bernstein operetta Candide, Handel’s Agrippina, Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia and Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio.
The 2019 season continues Figaro’s story with Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, lauded by Sir Isaiah Berlin as ‘the best opera ever written by a human being’. Verdi and Shakespeare come enticingly to The Grange in Falstaff which promises to be a life-enhancing celebration of love, laughter and joie-de-vivre. Following a raft of 5-star reviews for Agrippina, we are extremely excited to venture once again into the baroque with Handel’s Belshazzar, a dramatic oratorio which has rarely been staged before. We will also welcome back Company Wayne McGregor for a specially-commissioned programme of Dance@TheGrange and finally look forward to an evening of razzle-dazzle with Inimitable, Irresistible Hollywood and Broadway with The John Wilson Orchestra.
Throughout the season, we invite guests to immerse themselves fully in the atmosphere and unparalleled surroundings of The Grange and enjoy the grounds before curtain-up. In each performance, there is a 100-minute dining interval where guests can experience fine-dining in the iconic Grange building or picnic in the breath-taking grounds. The Art@TheGrange exhibition and Lady Ashburton’s shop should also not be missed, set within the extraordinary semi-ruined building.
The Grange Festival is easily accessible by road with plenty of free parking on-site. If you are using a sat-nav, follow the postcode SO24 9TZ for our new Festival drive. Full driving instructions can be found here: https://thegrangefestival.co.uk/how-to-find-us/
